About Us
City Dragons was formed in 2003 with only 20 members. Over the years the club has grown and so has its success. City Dragons won its first major title in 2006 with a 1st place in the Australian Dragon Boat Federation's(AUSDBF) Premier Opens 500m title in 2006. Our Women's crew has made the major final in both the 500m and 200m in consecutive years 2006 & 2007.
The year 2008 resulted in the clubs most successful year to date, successfully winning the Dragon Boats New South Wales(DBNSW) Chinese New Year Regatta, Premier Opens title. We then took that form to Perth for AUSDBF Premier Opens 500m Championship & also winning the Premier Mixed 200m Title.
This entitled City Dragons to compete in the International Dragon Boat Federation(IDBF) Club Crew World Championships 2008, held in Penang, Malaysia. City Dragons finished 7th overall, in the 2000m, 500m & 200m Premier Opens category. Recording the 4th fastest time in the world over 200m! This finished a fantastic season by establishing the club as the Fastest Australian Premier Opens team.
Since its inception, City Dragons, with its close ties to the Chinese Dragon Boat Association, has been a yearly competitor in China winning Gold, Silver & Bronze medals at various Dragon Boat events throughout China The club recently took a team to Vladivostok in Russia to compete in that countries largest Dragon Boat regatta. The club is specifically put together for the purpose of dragon boat competition, however the club also offers a diverse range of sporting, cultural & social activities, such as fundraising, land training, Ocean Kyaking & corporate crew training.
