Chinese New Year Race Review

What a weekend of races – outstanding competition in both the Sports and Corporate races. Darling Harbour once again came alive with dragon boats gliding through the water, a multitude of spectators and lion & dragon dances around the foreshore.
The race atmosphere was there; with the women’s crew hungry for victory this time around. Well done to the City Dragon ladies for successfully taking out the Women’s B finals, coming home with a trophy and an overall placing of 7th out of 24 crews.
Our opens crew didn’t disappoint either, and once again pulled an awesome effort to make it into the A final – coming 5th overall out of 30 crews.

What a mighty effort for our premier crews. It shows we’re are up amongst the best.
Our mixed crews both Red and Blue also performed well, with the Red team making it to the Mixed B finals, and the Blue team narrowly missing out. Not a bad effort!! Our guys and girls making a lethal combination.

We can all be proud of our achievements over the weekend – City Dragons was well represented by our Opens, Women’s and Mixed Crews in the Sports category, and also by individuals whether paddling, coaching, sweeping or coxing in the Corporate Crews.

And yes MVU – so you really did come home with the bling bling….well done to the ARUP team who seemed to have blitzed the Corporate competition to take the Corporate title for the first year. Just another year now, and you will be amongst the ranks of the IBM team, who took it out two years consecutively ?

Our results over the weekend reflected the commitment and dedication of all members in the past few weeks. However, it also shows that there is still A LOT more work that needs to be done to be amongst the top of the list.
We need the continuing commitment, dedication & teamwork of all members in the next two months, while we train and work towards the States and the Nationals. This is where it counts guys.

Let’s train hard, and paddle hard….so that we can party hard at the end.

See you all on the water.
